Hit The Links
13.05.08
I've briefly mentioned previously how golf club kiosks are often a great source of cheap beer and last Saturday arvo proved it once again.

I was having a hit at Royal Park which is located next to the zoo, amongst greenery and noisy elephants, when we decided to have a brew after the game. Not wanting to pay Saturday arvo prices at nearby pubs, we headed for the pro shop instead, and found that the stubbies were just $3.90! That's pretty cheap these days.

So there we were - with cheap beer in hand, thinking we should hit the links more often. Think about it people!

New Tightarse Pub
12.05.08
You gotta love the new management that puts a sign outside proclaiming “We’re aren’t shit anymore!”.

Head to the Birmingham Hotel in Collingwood and that’s what you will see, which in my opinion was always a bit hit and miss, and thats not including the fights. Sure it didn’t seem like the most welcoming of places (it was fine unless you were being a dickhead or had an astonishly attractive lady partner with you), and it did have it share of trouble (see here), yet it was old school Collingwood (technically it is in Fitzroy but it always had the Collingwood vibe) and it made no apologies for it.

However, that’s not to say that the new management haven’t won me over already and things have changed for the better. In the past month they have updated the front bar to make it much more casual - think East Brunswick grunge meets nannas flat - but best of all they are offering $2 pots of new from 5pm Fridays and Saturdays. Not too shabby at all.

Birmingham Hotel, Cnr of Smith and Johnston St, Fitzroy
